Committed to an active approach to ecological transition and controlling its public spending, the municipality of Démo-sur-Orne has completed the first phase of energy renovation work at the Jean de La Fontaine primary school.
Launched at the start of the summer period to minimise disruption to the school year, this major project modernises a building that dated back to the 1980s. The main works carried out include:
- External thermal insulation (ETI) on all the façades of the school complex.
- Replacement of the old single-glazed wooden joinery with aluminium frames with thermal break and double-glazed insulating windows.
- Installation of automatic solar blinds on south-facing windows to limit overheating in classrooms during the summer.
These technical improvements now ensure a uniform and comfortable temperature for the 180 pupils and teaching staff from the start of the new school year. In financial terms, the technical services estimate a nearly 30% reduction in the building’s overall energy bill. The official inauguration will take place in the presence of elected representatives, teachers and parent-teacher association representatives.
